স্টাফ রিপোর্টার, ঝাড়গ্রাম: কিছুদিন আগেই বর্ষা এসেছে বঙ্গে। বুধবার সকালটাও শুরু হয়েছিল ঝিরঝিরে বৃষ্টি দিয়ে। বাড়িতে বাড়িতে শঙ্খ আর উলুধ্বনি – দিনটা যে জামাইষষ্ঠী। কিন্তু কে জানতো সেই সময় ঝাড়গ্রামের একপ্রান্তে চলছে আতঙ্কের তাণ্ডব।
ঝাড়গ্রাম জেলার ঝাড়গ্রাম ব্লকের সাপধরা গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েতের পুকুরিয়া এলাকায় বাস রাস্তার উপর দাঁড়িয়ে তাণ্ডব চালাছিল এক অতিকায় দাতাল। শুধু বাস রাস্তায় নয়, তার পাশাপাশি ওই এলাকায় রাস্তার ধারে থাকা ধান বোঝাই একটি ট্রাক থেকে ধানের বস্তা টেনে বের করেও তাণ্ডব চালায় হাতিটি। ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকা ধান খেয়ে ফেলে সে।
তার এই তাণ্ডবে কেবল স্থানীয় মানুষই নয়, বরং সমস্যায় পড়েছিলেন যাত্রীরাও। রাস্তার উপর হাতি থাকায় ঝাড়গ্রাম চন্দ্রি বাস রাস্তায় যানবাহন চলাচল বেশকিছু সময়ের জন্য বন্ধ করা হয়েছিল। চেষ্টা চালানো হয়েছিল হাতিটিকে শান্ত করে অন্যত্র সরিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার। যার ফলে জামাইষষ্ঠীর অনুষ্ঠানে শ্বশুর বাড়িতে যাওয়ার পথে অনেক জামাইকে বাধ্য হয়ে ওই রাস্তা বাদ দিয়ে, ঘুরপথে শ্বশুরবাড়িও যেতে হয়েছে।
প্রায় ঘণ্টা তিনেক ধরে ওই এলাকায় দাপিয়ে বেড়ায় দলছুট এই দাঁতাল হাতি। ফলত, ওই এলাকার বাসিন্দারা হাতির হামলার আশঙ্কায় আতঙ্কের মধ্যে ছিলেন দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে। ওই এলাকা থেকেই কিছুটা দূরে, মঙ্গলবার হাতির হামলায় একজন ব্যক্তি মারা যান। সেই ঘটনার রেশ কাটতে না কাটতেই বুধবার সকাল থেকেই ফের নিকটবর্তী এলাকায় দাঁতালের তাণ্ডবে প্রায় তটস্থ হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা। এই দলছুট হাতি কখনো লোকালয়ে ঢুকে, কখনো রাস্তার উপর গিয়ে উন্মত্ততার নজির গড়ে দাপিয়ে বেরিয়েছে বলে জানান গ্রামবাসীরা। যার ফলে এলাকাজুড়ে হাতির হামলার আশঙ্কায় আতঙ্কের মধ্যে রয়েছেন বাসিন্দারা।
বিষয়টি জানানো হয়েছে বন দফতরকে। বন দফতরের পক্ষ থেকে ওই এলাকার সকলকে সতর্ক থাকার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। সেই সঙ্গে বনদপ্তর এর পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয় যে , বন দফতরের কর্মীরা ওই দল ছুট হাতিটির ওপর নজরদারি শুরু করেছে।

This toothless elephant wandered in the area for about three hours. As a result, residents of the area have long been terrified of elephant attacks. Not far from the area, a man was killed in an elephant attack on Tuesday. The locals were almost on the verge of tooth decay in the nearby area on Wednesday morning. The villagers said that the stray elephants sometimes entered the locality, sometimes went on the road and set out on a rampage. As a result, the residents are in panic for fear of elephant attack in the area.
